Photography studios run the opposite risk: strobe flashes clip cheap CMOS sensors frame after frame. KL installers who do this work quote Dahua WizSense fixtures with 140dB WDR (RM220–RM280 per unit) to survive flash peaks — a standard RM120 retail bullet produces pure white frames on every burst. Yoga and dance studios with 4m+ ceilings need 2.8mm wide-angle lenses mounted on the ceiling plane, priced at RM180–RM250 per unit. Hardware selection moves the total meaningfully, and the base quotation never includes the WDR or ColorVu variant; demand an equipment schedule with exact model numbers before signing.

Every honest quotation splits into four buckets. An SSM-registered installer (Sdn Bhd) writes a 1-year hardware term on Hikvision/Dahua, a 3-month workmanship term, and 24-hour remote support for the first 90 days. DIY cloud cameras carry no workmanship warranty, and Tapo Care subscriptions at RM5.99/month become recurring friction. Insurers also demand a serial-number appendix for equipment coverage — licensed vendors provide it free. For a studio inside a landed house in Bangsar or Wangsa Maju with no staff and no landlord, DIY is fine. For a music, photo, or yoga studio with employees and a building management office, the RM300–RM500 premium for the licensed route the premium beats the first rejected claim.
